Our population of the traditional geographical stronghold still seems to remain firm in the present time if the telephone directory is anything to go by. There are 163 Boylan families listed in Monaghan & Cavan but only two listed in County Kildare and a further two listed in Blessington, Co. Wicklow. The directory for Dublin (population 1.3 million) shows 187 Boylan listings. In Skerries (near Dublin) they say "if your not related to the Boylans your a blow in". The spelling of Boylan in Skerries is O'Baoilean. This is pronounced o'B-whale-On.
